Life Lately

Instagram - @amylorimer
We seem to have taken an unscheduled hiatus this past week or so. That's the thing about life, sometimes it catches up with you! We're still very much adapting to life back at work, with two at nursery and Iain's shifts at work being all over the place for the time being. Then there was the bout of Hand, Foot & Mouth, David's top 4 teeth breaking through all at once, John having a tough couple of weeks and then me getting food poisoning too. Fun times, really!

When family life isn't going as sweetly & picturesque as you would hope, it's time to take a step back from the computer screen & enjoy the [few] good moments as they happen. And that's exactly what we've been doing! The house may be a state and we don't have many clean clothes left, but these are things that will still need done in 20 years from now, when both boys are grown up & no longer in need of sofa cuddles and trips to the park. And as much as a love blogging, sometimes that needs to take a backseat as well, to make way for those cuddles & days out...

Both boys are in good health for the time being, 4 new teeth are officially broken through, John is back to his cheery self & I'm currently not poisoned! So stay tuned for some new posts in the next few weeks, including more from Diddle Diddle Dumpling's Home Made Christmas, our first ever vlog and even David's 1st Birthday in a little less than a month! (Boohoo!)

Instagram Lately

It's been a while since I did an Instagram update and now seems like as good a time as any to share a few recent favourites from my most used app, particularly since my DSLR has been gathering dust of late (whoops!).

This month we've taken a surprising amount of selfies, something I never really do these days, despite being  the queen of them many moons ago (I'll maybe share some as a #TBT one day...). There's also lots of outdoors photos in there too, which again is a rarity in sunny Scotland; one of my absolute favourites is obviously John on a pony! Such an amazing moment. And last but not least is a brief snapshot of a usual weekend morning in our house; two boys in their pyjamas, munching toast & still looking half asleep. Reality.

Much love,

Mad Week.

For more photos like these, follow us on Instagram - @amylorimer.
What do you mean it's the weekend? This week has just flown by, in a mad whirlwind of DIY, spring cleaning & preparing for friends coming to visit. It feels like I've barely had time to pee, let alone catch up on blogging, emails & tweeting. Now though, it's time to put my weary feet up & enjoy the weekend.

Despite my nesting-like behaviour (nope - most definitely not actually pregnant!!) we have managed a few moments of peace & fun throughout the week. Early Sunday morning, John & I headed to the Promenade to cheer on the Edinburgh Marathon runners and John saw his favourite Portobello sight; the tractor! Monday, Iain was off and although the day was a wash out he still treated me to a lovely lunch at Loch Fyne. The rest of the week has been quite normal, filled with toddler tantrums, David discovering new foods & lots of episodes of Fireman Sam. Yesterday afternoon however we took a break from the normal & headed down to the beach so John could choose some new stones. Kid is obsessed but it's the guaranteed way to snap him out a bad mood, which is quite frequent at the moment (molars? terrible twos? delayed sibling rivalry? who knows...)!

So there you have it. Nothing too exciting but now that the house is clean & I can stop stressing, normal service should resume!

Have a great weekend!

Ordinary Moments.

It's been a while since I last posted a Ordinary Moment but I love this picture too much not to share. It's the epitome of an ordinary Sunday in our house. John pestering Daddy, whilst simultaneously stuffing his cheeks full of peaches. David just chilling out, munching his own peaches, followed by a few spoons of custard - in just a vest because, you know, it's Sunday! And then there's me on the the other side, snapping photos between tidying our bomb-sight of a house. Nothing special. Nothing exciting. Just ordinary.

March Instagram Round-up.

Things have been a little quieter on Instagram this month. A bit of a combination of factors including choosing to use my camera for photos over my phone & not having any wifi or mobile internet in our house for around 2 weeks. But now we're back to normal and regular posting shall resume commence! This month has been a mixture of photos, from John enjoying his first ice cream cone of the year, to David being so wrapped up in layer that he looks like a marshmallow. And amongst those photos there's also a Gruffalo!

February Instagram Round-up.

Oh, Instagram, how you make me smile. Each month I love looking back at all the quick little snaps from our day-to-day and being reminded of those little moments.

I often find myself in awe of those with immaculate Instagram feeds, full of perfect photos which don't appear to have a Valencia or X-Pro II filter in sight. Those that I often wonder if their snaps have even been done on a phone or in fact their DSLR. I sometimes think I should rehaul my own Instagram profile and make it a little bit more organised, then restrain myself from posting the slightly blurred, grainy snaps. But I then think I'd miss out on appreciating all these goofy moments, made blurred by John's excitement in taking a selfy with his Mummy or the grainy lighting from trying to capture David smiling in our poorly lit livingroom at stupid-o'clock at night. I'm all for a perfect Instagram feed but then I think we've got one just the way it is!

January Instagram Round-up

This month has been a good month for photos. Maybe because there's been lots of moments that called for documentation with a photo, or maybe because I broke my proper camera and have had to rely on my phone to actually take said photos... Either way, I struggled to choose my favourites out of all our Instagram shots. Looking back I can't quite believe how long a month it's been either. It seems like it was months ago now that we went for a walk around rainy Innerleithen on New Years Day & headed to the beach for Portobello's annual Christmas tree burning. I guess it's true what they say - January really does feel like the longest month. But overall, it presented us with some good memories, like playing football with John at one of our local parks & adventures on the way home from nursery with a torch.

Here's hoping the rest of 2014 continues to give us great memories too.
