Today marks you turning six months. I can’t quite believe it! That’s half a year since you came into our lives and made us a family.
You’ve learnt so much in these six months, going from a teeny, tiny newborn to a baby who’s hit every milestone early and is desperate to be on the move.
Your latest achievements amaze me the most. You’ve become so confident in your ability to sit. Although you occasionally fall, you’ll happily sit completely unassisted for long periods of time, even holding toys, stroking your hair or chewing your fists. I can happily leave you sitting on the floor knowing you’ll still be sitting there when I get back; well, apart from pivoting in circles, that is. Will you be a bum shuffler?
The way you move is something special too. A little while ago you master rolling which means whenever you aren’t sitting, you’re on your tummy (even for sleeping). Again, you pivot all over the place and you’ve even started pushing your bum right up so you’re on your knees! Although you’ve yet to realise this is an affective method of transporting yourself around to cause destruction.
In other news, weaning is going great. You’ve really taken to food and we love seeing your reaction to new flavours and textures. So far you’ve tried banana, apple, pear, watermelon, carrot, broccoli, porridge, sweet potato, toast and (your favourite) honeydew melon. And we’ve only had one choking incident that you resolved all by yourself and once you’d had a little cry afterwards, you carried on stuffing your face! Oh, and you love sitting in your high hair - its become a lifesaver for us to get things done as you contently watch.
You’ve also become very aware of the world around you. You know there’s guinea pigs in the cage, you recognise your Granny, Papa & Aunties, and you have obvious favourites in terms of toys. But as well as toys, you have taken a great interest in everyday object, particularly the ones you see us using; phones, keys, cutlery - you see them & you want them! Daddy’s watch is the most fascinating of them all.
You’re still sleeping through the night and we think you’re ready for the transition to your own room. I plan to clean the carpet in your nursery this weekend and then we’ll be making the move. I’ll of course be upset when you’re not beside me anymore but I think it’s time. You’re becoming more and more independent and although it breaks my heart knowing you need me less, I also fill with pride knowing we’ve taken this journey to this point together. Just don’t stop your glances around to room to check in still there just yet. Mama still needs to feel like you need her for a bit longer yet.
