A Day in the Life of Us.

I try to vary our daily activities as much as possible, not just for John’s growing mind but to also keep my own sanity. Having said that, each day does follow a similar routine to allow some structure to John’s days.

We usually wake between 6-7am and I’ll feed John in our bed, followed by cuddles with Daddy. Unless I’m feeling particularly lazy, we’ll get up have a play in the living room and I’ll start breakfast, or if I am feeling lazy we’ll snooze a little longer.

I love making John breakfast these days. The past few days we’ve had porridge with fruit but we often have cheese omelettes or eggy bread too. And John will have a breastfeed to wash it down, followed by the first nap of the day, usually by 9am. By 10am John’s up and I’m showered. I’ll get him dressed and we’ll get organised for a walk. If we’ve got shopping to do or some spare cash for a trip to the cafe we’ll do that, otherwise we’ll stroll along the Promenade or go to the park to feed the ducks.

We’re home by 1pm and it’s time for lunch; which is decided on what we have in the house. Yesterday was mushroom risotto and today is sweet potato fries. And by the time lunch is done John is ready for another nap. During this nap I’ll usually do some tidying or chill out with a cup of tea and check the internet.

By 3pm at the latest, John is up again. Depending on the weather we might go another walk or if it’s a bit dull & rainy we’ll play inside. I sing songs, read books and do anything to keep John entertained! He’ll usually have another half hour nap around 4.30pm.

At 5.30pm it’s time for tea. I’ll either make something fresh for John (I have tea when Iain gets home at 8pm) or he’ll have left overs from our tea the previous night. Tea is timed perfectly so at 6pm it’s time for John’s bath.

By 6.30pm we’ve read a bedtime book, John has had his final feed and is fast asleep come 7pm. I’ll then do the dishes, make mine & Iain’s dinner for him coming home at 8pm and we’ll chill out in front of the TV until bedtime, usually around 10-11pm.

…Of course this can be completely different on days when we’ve got our Mum & Baby group, Rhyme Time or if we take a trip to my parents house.
