You Belong in the Zoo.

We'd considered taking John to the zoo in the past but put it off assuming he'd be too young, probably fall asleep and not even be able to even spot the animals. But a few weeks ago we decided that now he's a bit older, and can spot a dog from 2 miles away, we'd make a day of if.

We set off early, arriving just after opening -- a well planned step knowing John wouldn't need a nap for a while. Upon arrival we were informed that the elusive Pandas were open for viewing so headed to their enclosure first. It was madness, so many people crowded around one panda behind a glass wall. I gave up on trying to see and took a step back to watch as Iain fought the mass to let John catch a glimpse.

The rest of the zoo was far less busy. John was particularly fond of the penguins, who seemed to like him too. Perhaps it was because he was the same height as the king penguins, so they weren't intimidated by Johns small stature.

Another favourite of Johns was the Spider Monkeys. We arrived at their enclosure just as they were having their lunch. John beamed with excitement every time a monkey hopped up to the glass with a grape in hand. Although the verdict's still out on whether it was the monkey or grape that he was really excited about.

John did fantastically for how long a day it was. He walked the majority of the zoo (which is on a hill), only spending any great deal of time in his buggy when it came to a nap. He of course put up a good fight when we suggested said nap but he eventually gave in -- right on time to miss the penguin parade!
