Mummy Cuddles.

This little boy is becoming more and more independent, something this Mummy is not enthused about. Wanting to walk everywhere instead of using the buggy, self-settling himself to sleep (through the night, no less), moving from the Baby Room into the Tweenie Room at nursery... His babyhood is becoming a distant memory, and although I'm excited to see what the toddler years bring, I'm not ready for him to let go of his dependence on his Mummy just yet.

Boy must know this, as today he needed his Mummy. He needed those cuddles that make the world seem like a better place, the silent embrace that reassures us both that it's all going to be OK. His first molars are cutting through and no remedy could help, nothing but Mummy cuddles. His random cries break my heart but knowing the ability to fix it still lies within my arms is the ultimate parenting-confidence-boost.

I just hope he needs me a little longer, that he isn't going to start growing any quicker, and that time takes pity on my lack of enthusiasm for John growing up.

  1. The push and pull of parent and child is such a roller coaster and one never quite knows when the ups and downs will come. He will continue to need you. My boys are 15 and 17 and they still need me from time to time...but it's usually cloaked within something else, so it's not as easy to see what they need now. Hang in there! Your photos are precious!
