Living Arrows 2/52.

I long for the days when I can bath both boys together. Unless Iain is there to do John whilst I do David, tandem bathing is currently near impossible. All is fine whilst the boys are in the bath but as soon as David's out, John wants out too. Then David cries because he's cold, John cries because he wants to brush his teeth. David pees on me, John spills his potty on the floor. David squirms frantically as I try to dress him, John runs away in hysterical laughter the second pyjamas are mentioned. It's probably one of the most stressful experiences of the day. So instead, I bath David when John's at nursery and we do the two of them as a team on a Saturday night.

Usually, bath time is one of the few moments John and I get to really be just the two of us. David sleeps in his chair in the living room and we'll play in the bath, tidy the boys room & read a few stories before it's time for bed. Last night however, David had other plans. He was tired. Overtired. And fussy. He wanted to be part of bath time, so on the bathroom floor he joined us. John didn't mind. Instead he showed David his boat and insisted I restart David's Fisher Price Seahorse every time it stopped.

Not quite the perfect photo of two little boys splashing in the bath that I dreamt of whilst pregnant with David but I'm sure that day will soon come. For now, we'll make do with a soapy toddler happily splashing in the bath and a demanding baby stropping on the bathroom floor. Reality.

  1. A great picture showing everyday life. They are very cute x

  2. Lovely memory to capture. My children are 3 and 5 and although they can bath together they don't tend to. They either drown each other or end up fighting over who has the most bubbles, a toy, who gets washed first etc etc etc!!!

    1. Haha! I can see the same thing happening in our house in the near future too.

  3. Little Man is 8 months now and I still can't bath him and his big Sister together by myself. I just know it would all go horribly wrong. I wish our bathroom was big enough for a bouncer or anything really - you have a great size bathroom!
Lovely photo, even though it's not of the two of them splashing together! x

    1. Thanks, Donna. The photos a bit deceiving however - our bathroom really isn't very big at all!

  4. You're so right - sometimes reality knocks us on our tails. But it's a beautifully captured moment... and you are a great mom. I'm sure John appreciates those special bonding moments with you so much :) Glad to have rediscovered you from the I Heart Snapping link-up. Beautiful :)

    1. Bath time is definitely my favourite time of day with John. No smart phones, no TV distractions & no tantrums (most of the time!). Just some real chill out time before bed...well, when David's behaving that is!

  5. Negotiating double bath time was one of the things that I couldn't get my head around before my littlest came along. We worked it out along the way, but my goodness was it a military operation in the early days. I love how this photo really captures a moment in time for you right now. x

    1. I've given up on it at the moment, Lucy. Although David is a bit calmer in the bath these days, he still cries & feels exposed when he comes out (not helped by John's insistence in coming out the moment David does too). Maybe we'll have more success when he hits the stage of never wanting to wear clothes, just like his big brother!
