Living Arrows 4/52.

Toddler boy playing with toy cars.

This past week I came across the topic of first words. Someone was questioning on Baby Centre (serious BC addict, right here!) what was the most common first word, after "Mama" & "Dada". Surprisingly, I had to actually think about what John's first word was. And when I did remember, it became blatantly obvious. "Car!"

I'm not sure where the obsession started - possibly nursery, or his Grandad's toy car collection? - but boy is obsessed. He's forever asking for "Daddy's car?" and pointing out every car, bus, nawr, cruck & van wherever we go. I particularly love it when we see a fire engine or the bin lorry whilst out for a walk and the first thing he does when we get back to the house is run too his room & bring back his own fire engine or bin lorry to show me.

This last week he's taken to lining up his car collection - or what he can fit of the immense collection - along our bedroom windowsill. Lord knows where the urge to do this came from but he'll contently spend a good 30 minutes (which adds up to hours in toddler time) in front of the window, carefully organising each car so they're perfectly lined up & all facing out the way - OCD much?

  1. I also have a little boy who is car obsessed and his grandfather is car obsessed... but full size ones! You have reminded me that I really want one of those wooden display units for small cars to go on the wall of his bedroom...when we've built it!

    1. I really need to think of a better storage solution for all John's cars. At the moment they're piled into an old nappy box. Does the job but not very attractive!
