Nearly 2.

In just 6 days, my biggest little will be 2. It's such a bitter sweet feeling. I can still clearly remember the love I first felt for him the moment he was placed into my arms, yet the smallest, sweetest details - like the feeling of his soft downy newborn hair & his skinny baby limbs - become more difficult to recall each day. These small details are slowly becoming compressed into the back of my mind to make way for all the new memories of a walking, talking toddler.

But there's so many things I don't want to let myself forget...

The way he licks his top lip to check for snot when we ask if he need a tissue. Disgusting? Yes. Hilarious? Most definitely!

How he says "thank you" ("cank-oo"). And "pardon" ("pa-den") whenever someone burps. He also calls milk "mocks".

That he shouts "tea!" when the door buzzer goes (too many takeaways perhaps?). And if I tell him it's not tea, he'll ask if it's Daddy or Papa instead.

How he pronounces names. John is "Don". David is "Day-day". Granny is "Ganny". Bella is "Lella".

The way he associates toys with TV characters. Bringing Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy & Makka Pakka through when In The Night Garden is on. Searching out Mr Potato Head when Toy Story is on. And playing with Lightening McQueen and Mator when he watches Cars.

His obsession with transportation - cars ("caaa"), trucks ("cuck"), ambulances/fire engines/police cars ("nawr!"), buses, vans, trains ("choo-choo!").

The cuddles & the kisses. He now saves most of them for Daddy & David but every now & then, he'll run up to me and plant a big sloppy kiss on me, or he'll clamber up beside me and wrap himself around me.

Just how small he is. Still in 9-12 month trousers & 12-18 months tops. He's only now into size 5 shoes & wearing coats he got for his birthday last year.

How tidy he's become. He always puts his plate & bowl into the sink after eating and helps me tidy his toys & books away at the end of the day.

His excitement of seeing the birds ("burdies") out the window. And his constant questioning if Daddy & Papa's cars are parked outside.

Just how cheeky he is. Always smiling, laughing and giving that mischievous look. He's definitely going to be the class clown.

  1. Aww he's so sweet. Lovely post. It's so bitter-sweet when they grow up. It's lovely to see the little people they turn into but I'd love just to freeze time.

  2. Exactly, Amy! Exciting and sad all at once. This Mummy thing is an emotional roller-coaster.
