Phil & Teds Tandem - DIY Makeover.

What's better than a bargain? A freebie, that's what! A few months back I joined our local Facebook selling page and since then I've scored some great bits & pieces. One of the best though has got to be this Phil & Teds tandem buggy. A lovely local lady was offering it for free to anyone who needed it now that her two youngest boys had out-grown it. I was extremely lucky to see the buggy within minutes of it being posted and we arranged for me to collect it a couple of days later. Since then I've slowly been doing a little bit of a makeover on it & waiting for David to grow enough to be able to use the bottom seat.

I know it's had at least two previous owners and despite being in good overall condition, it showed a little wear & tear. The handle bar was a bit worse for wear, the wheels needed a bit of TLC and the whole buggy needed a little clean. So I set to work.

First up was a good wee clean. Buggies can be a bit awkward as it's not always ever easy to remove bits for cleaning and once you have wrestled to get them apart, it's unlikely they'll be machine washable. Instead I opted for a sponge & some washing up liquid. Thankfully it was just muddy marks & the odd bit of dirt here & there so it cleaned up rather well.

Next up was some little repairs and extras added here & there. I got a new handle bar cover from eBay to replace the battered, little-worse-for-wear one that was already attached. I tightened up the screws and replaced the threadbare tyres & inner tubes. And after trying it out with my usual Pink Lining Changing Bag, I quickly realised it wasn't ideal for everyday use with this particular buggy - unless I really wanted to knock David out - so I bought the Skip Hop Buggy Organiser to store our essentials in whilst out & about.

The biggest transformation was the seat liners I put together. Overall, the Phil & Teds Sport is a bit of an eyesore, particularly when it's already had a bit of loving, so I decided to make some colourful seat liners to liven it up a bit using this pattern and some of my favourite Riley Blake fabrics. I'm more than chuffed with how they turned out and they definitely make a somewhat 'passed it' buggy seem a bit more bright & colourful! Plus, rainbow moustaches are definitely my kind of thing.

What I Spent.
Phil & Teds Sport Buggy with Second Seat - £0.
Skip Hop Buggy Organiser - £0 (RRP.£22 but used gift voucher).
Riley Blake Fabric - £29 eBay.
Wadding - £3.
Velcro - £3.38.
Total - £71.82
(New Phil & Teds tandem buggies retail at avrg.£450).
